SFTC 1/8/12

  • Osasuna Win, Draw, Lose by 1
  • Alabama SDLW @ Missouri DD Win
Here we have the 11-2 Missouri Tigers going up against the 8-5 Alabama Crimson Tide in the first conference game for both teams. So far at home this season, Missouri is 8-0, while winning 7 of those games by 10 points or more. In their last game, they actually only beat Bucknell by 2 points at home, but were able to beat Illinois (ranked 10th at the time) by 9 points at home two games ago. Meanwhile, Alabama enters 8-5 with a 1-2 away record. Of those two losses, one of them was by double digits, to unranked VCU. Missouri is able to put up 79.6 points per game at home, while allowing only 56.4. Meanwhile, Alabama only scores 58.7 points per game on the road, while allowing 64.3.

My Pick: Missouri Double Digit Win (Suggested Pick)
Why: Alabama is just not a good road team and looking at their offense and defense on the road, both are terrible. Meanwhile, Missouri is one of the best home teams in the country, and should quickly put Alabama away. They are currently favored by 9 points, but I think Missouri should cover that and win by 10.

  • Pittsburgh Panthers @ Georgetown Hoyas
For the next suggested pick of the day, we have the 19th ranked Georgetown Hoyas up against the unranked Pittsburgh Panthers in a Big East showdown. Georgetown enters 10-2 with an 8-0 home record so far. In their last game, the Hoyas suffered a road loss to Marquette, their first loss since November 20th to Indiana in a neutral location. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh enters 12-3 with an 0-1 road record. In Pitt's last game, they suffered a 5 point loss to Rutgers on the road, and fell to Cinci in the game before that at home. Pittsburgh plays terrible road basketball, allowing 67 points per game while only scoring 62. Meanwhile, Georgetown's offense isn't too great at home, scoring only 64.9 points per game, but their defense is stifling, allowing only 51.1 points per game.

My Pick: Georgetown Hoyas (Suggested Pick)
Why: In a Big East showdown, a lot can happen, but if you look at it Pittsburgh has played terrible recently and that road loss to Rutgers was embarrassing. Although it got close at the end, Pittsburgh was trailing the entire game by as much as 15 at one point. Georgetown is a much better team than Rutgers, and should easily beat Pittsburgh. I am a little confused as to why the line is only 1.5 in Georgetown's favor, but they should win.
