First pick of the day was Ural Win/Draw (see my twitter)
7 Games Or Fewer vs 8 Games Or More
Here we have a US Open first round matchup between Andy Murray and Alex Bogomolov Jr. Keep in mind this is a best of 5 set match. Murray enters ranked 4th in the world, while Bogomolov enters ranked 73rd. Murray leads the all time head to head match ups between these two players, by 2 matches to 1. Bogomolov won their first match in 2011, but Murray has beaten Bogomolov in the two matches after that. Those 3 matches were all best of 3 set matches, so I cannot really compare the upcoming match to their previous meetings.
My Pick: 8 Games Or More LOCK OF THE DAY
Why: I think it should be fairly easy for Bogomolov to hold serve 8 times this match, about 3 times a set. Murray probably won't go all out in the first round, and I think the final score will be 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 or something along those lines.
Kansas City Royals @ Boston Red Sox
Luke Hochevar: 7-11, 4.95 ERA. Last Start vs TB: 8 IP, 0 ER. Post All Star: 1-3, 4.56 ERA. Away: 2-5, 5.06 ERA.
Daisuke Matsuzaka: First Start Since July 2nd (1 IP, 5 ER). Season: 0-3, 6.65 ERA. Home: 0-1, 5.06 ERA.
Key Fact: The Red Sox recently just traded away their star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, and their star DH in David Ortiz is injured.
Red Sox: -110
My Pick: Kansas City Royals
Athletic Bilbao Win/Draw @ Atletico Madrid Win
Here we have a Spanish La Liga matchup. Bilbao is coming off a 5-3 defeat at home, while Madrid is coming off a draw on the road. In the 2011-2012 season, Madrid finished 5th with a goal differential of 7, and Bilbao finished 10th with a goal differential of -3. At home, Madrid went 15-11-12, not a too good of a record, while Bilbao finished 12-13-13 on the road.
My Pick: Atletico Madrid Win
Why: I think they will build on their away draw and end up beating Bilbao by a score of 2-0 or 2-1. Bilbao suffered a loss at the hands of a team that finished 13th last year, while Madrid drew the team that finished 6th last year.
Chicago White Sox @ Baltimore Orioles
Francisco Liriano: 5-10, 5.12 ERA. Post All Star: 2-3, 5.19 ERA. Away: 2-6, 5.53 ERA.
Wei-Yin Chen: 12-7, 3.87 ERA. Post All Star: 5-2, 3.75 ERA. Home: 6-4, 3.60 ERA.
Last 10 Games:
White Sox: 7-3
White Sox: +107
My Pick: Baltimore Orioles
Instead of doing full writeups for the last couple picks, I would like to show you what I will be doing starting Tomorrow and ending next summer. Keep in mind the little snippets I wrote here will be longer and more in depth than here starting Thursday, but heres a taste:
Milwaukee Brewers- Both teams have similar pitchers, but the Brewers have been very hot of late. I expect them to win in a close game.
Tampa Bay Rays- David Price has been lights out of late, I like him to propel his team to a win here
Cincinnati Reds- Very good Reds offense facing a rookie pitcher in his second start. Look for them to get a lot of offense going and Arroyo, who has also been good of late, hold the DBacks to only a few runs
Atlanta Braves- Padres have been very good of late, but I think today is the day that streak is broken against a strong Braves team. Also, Maholm has only given up 5 ER in his last 3 starts, while the Padres' pitcher Kelly will be making his first start.
